Felicity Gutierrez (Organizer)

Felicity (they/them) is a first-generation Filipino migrant humbly living on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sʔəl̀ilwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations. They are also a fifth-year undergraduate student at the University of British Columbia.

Felicity grew up in Manila, summered in Batangas, and was rather abruptly uprooted and repotted into Canada. Some wayward roots remain in the Philippines, of course. All these gardening metaphors mean to say that Felicity is interested in the tapestry of empire, migration, labour, class, and language. Despite growing up as an introvert, they enjoy working with people. They tackle various communications and community-engaged projects at the Centre for Asian Canadian Research and Engagement (ACRE) and serving as Peer Mentor for the Coordinated Arts Program (CAP). Felicity also organizes with grassroots Filipino migrant group Migrante BC.

When not fermenting in academia, Felicity can be found either cooking or eating in the kitchen, drawing or writing with their back curved in a terrible posture, or listening to OPM (Original Pilipino Music— ask them for recommendations!).

Felicity is very excited for their first time in ACAM Dialogues! They look forward to building a community with this year’s cohort over snacks and insightful conversations.
