Lian Lo (she/they) is a fourth-year student living on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sʔəl̀ilwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations. Studying at the University of British Columbia, Lian majors in Honours English Literature and minors in First Nations and Indigenous Studies. Though now in Vancouver, Lian was born and raised in Southern Ontario, on the Treaty Lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit Valley First Nation.
As the daughter of a 1.5-gen Chinese father from Taiwan and a settler mother of Scottish descent, Lian’s mixed-race identity has always pushed her towards an interest in liminal spaces—instances of in-betweenness, transition and ambiguity. Their passions also lay in reimagining Western educational structures using decolonial practices, cultivating spaces of community and collective care, as well as historical and ongoing relationships between marginalized groups.
When she’s not reading, Lian can be found talking with friends over food, watching a new tv show (she can never watch one to the end), writing, or listening to music.
Lian is so excited to have the opportunity to help facilitate this year’s ACAM Dialogues program! She is eager to engage in meaningful conversation with fellow students and to cultivate a community where care and learning coexist.
