Liana Raisanen

Liana Raisanen (she/her) is a graduate student in UBC’s English Language and Literatures department. She is currently living and learning on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sʔəl̀ilwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations. Liana’s academic interests lie at the intersections of social justice, Asian-Canadian and diaspora literature, and migration studies. Particularly, she is interested in research questions considering liminal spaces in diasporic communities and critical topics in race, gender and disability.

What brings you to ACAM Dialogues?

Liana joined ACAM Dialogues to get involved with a close-knit cohort revolving around Asian Canadian studies and to learn more about the current conversations held in this community! Overall, she is excited to expand her knowledge, challenge her thinking, and is excited to connect with fellow peers over the year.

What do you like to do for fun?

Outside of academia, Liana is also a Features writer for the Ubyssey and enjoys reading novels, crocheting, and various crafty hobbies.
