Caitlin Chong (2021/2)

Caitlin Chong is a Han Chinese settler occupying unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Skwxwú7mesh, and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ Nations, in what is colonially known as “Vancouver.” She holds an Honours BA in Sociology from the University of Victoria. Caitlin is currently an MA student in Sociology at UBC working under the supervision of Dr. Renisa Mawani. Her research interests lie within the tensions between hyphenated “Chinese-Canadian” identities/communities and socio-political necessitations of anti-oppressive theory and praxis, living as an unwilling yet complicit settler in the state known as “Canada.” She hopes to research and produce knowledge away from the state, towards alternative modes of subjectivity and anti-colonial politics of care and solidarity.

Caitlin’s experience with ACAM Dialogues:

Through the ACAM dialogues program, I got the opportunity to converse with like-minded peers in a very constructive space! We had thought-provoking discussion and communal learning which I continue to hold and consider in my day-to-day life. Being part of the cohort was a unique experience that I was happy to be part of. I especially enjoyed the art therapy session we took part in!
